Meet Dylan – Founder, Owner and Lead Instructor

Dylan is the founder, owner, and lead instructor at Gain First Aid Training. He established the company over 15 years ago, building on decades of practical experience in emergency response and training delivery. Dylan spent more than 30 years with Ipswich Borough Council—starting on the dust carts and progressing to manage refuse collection and street cleaning operations. His role included recruitment, HR, and health and safety responsibilities, and he has been a workplace first aider from the very beginning.

He later became a trainer for the council, delivering courses in First Aid, Health & Safety, and other subjects. Dylan holds a BTEC Level 4 in First Responder on Scene and has hands-on experience dealing with everything from minor injuries to full CPR. He also completed a degree in Business Management at the age of 40, demonstrating his belief in lifelong learning.

Dylan is known for his calm, approachable style and for using humour appropriately to keep learners engaged and at ease. Outside of work, he is a passionate SCUBA diver and golfer. He has been a member of Ipswich Sub Aqua Club since 1997 and is a qualified BSAC Advanced Diver and Open Water Instructor, with diving experience around the world.

Meet David – Instructor, Responder and Mentor

David is an experienced instructor with over 25 years in the British Army, including operational tours in the Middle East, Cyprus, and Sub-Saharan Africa. Throughout his military career, he developed a calm, methodical approach to leadership, instruction, and high-pressure situations.

He has trained soldiers in electrical safety (PAT testing), delivered officer development at Oxford University Officers’ Training Corps, and worked in Army procurement, overseeing training needs analysis and quality assurance for equipment and services.

Since 2023, David has also served as a Community First Responder with the East of England Ambulance Service. Responding to 999 calls, he provides urgent care to patients in the community suffering from conditions such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, diabetic emergencies, strokes, unconsciousness, and full cardiac arrest—often arriving before ambulance crews. He also supports the EEAST Heart program by teaching Basic Life Support (BLS) to both adults and children, and helping to train fellow responders.

Outside of emergency care, David is a passionate outdoor instructor with 15–20 years of experience in rock climbing and 18 months in kayaking. He has organised large-scale training events and climbing competitions for up to 250 people. He continues to volunteer with RAF Air Cadets and local Scout groups, teaching first aid, climbing, kayaking, and STEM activities to help inspire the next generation.

At Gain First Aid Training, David combines his military background, emergency care experience, and love for teaching to deliver practical, engaging, and potentially life-saving training.
